Even in the day of hi-tech strollers, 3-in-1 high chairs, cloth vs. disposable, minivan vs. SUV, orthodontically correct pacifiers, ergonomically designed baby carriers, play dates, swim lessons, and a fantastic diaper bag to hold it all, child-rearing is about growing in faith and discovering the Truth: Every human being is created in God’s image, and salvation is a gift offered them.
By “unpacking” the day-to-day details of new parenthood, I hope to shed light on Christian truth. I cannot make a reader understand exactly how parenting makes sense in their lives. Only the Holy Spirit can do that work in a person’s heart. I do not wish to prove the Truth. I am not trained as a philosopher or theologian. Every entry is written from the point of growing belief and faith and fidelity to the Catholic Church.
The key word is growing. When I pray, read Scripture, and trust in the Holy Spirit, I grow in my capacity to be a Christian mother and to love selflessly.
My task here is to share personal stories and inspire readers to think about the children in their lives. My goal is to show that raising children is more than what marketing and popular culture advertise. Whether carrying a child or his diaper bag, or both on the same shoulder, a mother (or father, friend, grandparent . . .) is a witness of God’s presence in the world.
How did we come to this in our own parenting experience? This is the only way to look at children. Little Jack is blessed. God was always there, always listening, even when we didn’t notice Him. I’m proud of you Ann. You and Teak are wonderful parents.
Ann! This is GREAT! So excited! Love what you did with this, especially that last line, and can’t wait to read more. xo
